PTA Committee Description
The McGinn PTA hosts events and fundraisers throughout the school year. Please see brief descriptions of our events and fundraisers below. | Scholastic Book Fair | Sets up & work at two Book Fairs | November & May |
| Breakfast with Flame | Organize a family fun event featuring a pancake breakfast, visit & photos with Flame the Dragon & other family activities (i.e. cocoa station, etc.) | Saturday in December |
| Think Purple Week (Chemical Dependency Awareness) | Plans & executes Think Purple Week (Drug & Alcohol Awareness) activities. Jobs include communicating with the district PTA to coordinate an assembly that they will provide, distributing the I am Special People for students to decorate, decorating the school with purple ribbons, and organizing the different school spirit days that week to celebrate. | Meetings: 1st of the Month from Nov.-April; Events: March & June |
| Color Run | Coordinate communication & pledge collection. Shop & set up color run. Volunteers needed the day of the event. | Preparation: September-October; Event: October |
| Cultural Arts: In-School Assemblies/Shows | Previews, arranges for & attends assemblies for our children’s education | School Year |
| Author Visit | Researches relevant authors for visiting & speaking/presenting to students, works with Media Specialist for guidance | School Year |
| Global Family Night | Organize an evening of food, games & dances from various cultures & backgrounds | Evening in January |
| Fourth Grade Activities | Committee of 4th grade parents who are interested in planning the end of the year fourth grade activities including Celebration of Learning, Fourth Grade Picnic, T-shirts, Memory Books, and 4th Grade volunteering | August - June |
| Garden Project | Members of this committee support the growth of fruits & vegetables planted by students | Year Round |
| Health & Wellness -District 5K | Attends district meetings to support the planning of a district 5K event in Spring that funds scholarships | 2 or 3 Meetings Per Year |
| Hospitality- Staff Valentine’s Day Breakfast | Organizes & acts as host. Assigns people various breakfast dishes & baked goods to be donated | February |
| Hospitality- Staff Appreciation | Arranges & provides for various activities to celebrate Staff Appreciation Week. Activities include staff breakfast &/or luncheon, little treats throughout the week. | May |
| Kids Care- Clothing and Toy Drives | Organize and collect clothing and toys; deliver donations. | November and December |
| Kids Care- Food Drive | Collect non-perishables to donate to local food pantries in the community. | Every other month |
| Kids Kreations | Work with art teachers to coordinate student artwork. Organize order forms, submit artwork & distribute products once they arrive. | Spring |
| McGinn After School Enrichments | This program provides children with an opportunity to explore various enrichment classes after school. Current offerings: Lego Club and Coding Classes | October - March |
| Parent Social | Coordinate date & details with a local restaurant//hall to gather McGinn parents for a fun, social night out. Organizes evening events, food, drink, entertainment, etc & communicates to families. | Winter |
| Party on the Blacktop | Plan a family movie night to be held on school grounds. Coordination of food vendors & a/v provider. | Friday in September |
| Pie Sale | Coordinate order forms & pie distribution | November |
| Plant Sales | Offer a pre-sale to families as well as plants for students to purchase the day of the event. Work with nursery to negotiate a price, collect & place orders, coordinate logistics on the day of the sale | Fall & Spring |
| Pretzel Sales | Host pretzel sale on the blacktop after school. Place pretzel order with Philly Pretzel Co. a week in advance, coordinate cash box, paper bags, napkins, tables. | First Friday of Each Month on School Spirit Days. |
| Purchase Programs | Investigate & present various programs to earn money for McGinn. Send out communications to McGinn families. Dine Outs: Identify local restaurants that provide a portion of proceeds to our organization. Event: Fall & Spring. Sporting Events – Buy discounted tickets with profits going to McGinn- Event: ongoing | Year Round |
| Reflections Art Program | Communicate this district wide arts program to McGinn Students, collect student submissions & submit to National PTA. | Duration: September-November |
| School Pictures | Publicizes, prepares & schedules student’s class pictures. Helps the photographers on days when pictures are taken. Responsible for the 4th grade composite distribution. | September |
| Sharing Lunches | Organizes the distribution of lunch bags to students, sorts the bags to ensure each bag is complete (with the help of a volunteer team and 4th graders), and delivers the bags for donation. | Every other month |
| Super Science Saturday | Plans & organizes both scientific & non-scientific displays with students/parents. Jobs include organizing student-run experiments, preparing applications & researching/contracting a scientific presentation, publicity, food & drink, volunteer organization & purchasing supplies. | Preparation: January-March; Event: March |
| Variety Show | Children are grouped by grade to participate in this musical event. Jobs include: directors, publicity, costuming, concessions, playbills, group photos, ticketing, & coordinating volunteers. | Preparation: Late Fall/Winter; Event: April-May |
